The following article was published in “Serving You” Autumn 2007, page 3
"Serving You" is described, to Residents, as "Your Magazine from Havant Borough Council"
(The words are reproduced from "Serving You" for the purpose of discussion and reference in E-mails, etc., while the original authorship and copyright is acknowledged.)

Equalities in Havant

As mentioned in the last Issue of Serving You there are six strands or themes to the Equalities legislation.

1. Age
2. Disability
3. Gender
4. Race (including Romany Gypsies and Travellers of Irish Heritage)
5. Religion and belief (including lack of belief)
6. Sexual Orientation

Havant Borough Council has to ensure that all our services are right for everyone in the borough and we have to make sure that we do not unlawfully discriminate against anyone because of the above themes in terms of employment and provision of goods and services we provide.

This is where we need your help!

We need a better picture of who lives in our borough and we will be sending out a questionnaire relating to the six points above. The information we gain will tell us how our community is made up.

We would also like to hear from organisations who can help us to contact harder-to-reach communities so that everyone can have their chance to influence policy decisions that are made and that affect everyone. If you are part of such an organisation please get in touch and let us know which group you specialise in and what work you do.
